This newspaper was the first to promptly report on domestic news, which is the mission of newspaper reporting. Among its reporters were such well-known figures as Otsuki Fumihiko (lexicographer) and Hoshi Toru (communications minister, 1900). It was also the first Japanese newspaper to use Western paper (rather than traditional paper).
