The exhibition was among the entertainments held in the compound of Sensoji Temple in Asakusa to celebrate the unveiling of the image of Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) to which the temple is dedicated. According to the Buko nenpyo, other shows included an exhibition of a donkey and a performance featuring manipulation of balls. "People crowded to see them every day," it says.
