The product, Hatsumidori ("Maiden Black") was apparently an oil made of plum blossoms that was less oily and more fragrant than camellia (tsubaki) hair oil. In his own works of fiction Shunsui often mentioned the names of his products in a manner not unlike today's television and radio commercials.
