The Manjiya, the ad explains, exempts clients from the complex procedure of seeking introductions from hikite-jaya restaurants, and invites them to come directly to the house. The prices of the women’s services, set according to their rank, are boldly listed in the ad, which looks little different from an ad for a store like the Echigoya offering rolls of silk fabric.
