"Chazuke," usually a bowl of rice doused with hot tea and seasonings, here evidently meant a bicultural combination of rice served alongside a Western-style dish. The ad explains that the shop has an earthen floor, so diners need not take off their shoes. That in itself was a novelty in those days.
