The Echigoya store on the left and the Iseya store on the right had splendid frontages hung with large noren curtains boasting their shop insignia. A candy man in Dutch dress, an entertainer holding a two-tiered umbrella, large hand-drawn carts (daihachi-guruma) loaded with spun silk for export, and other scenes vividly capture the bustle and prosperity of the times.
