Haikai ichimaizuri are single sheets of paper upon which haikai-related materials are printed. They were not produced for sale, but rather for personal distribution among haikai poets on various occasions such as the New Year, celebrations of spring and autumn, and memorial services. Poets or their patrons produced elaborate haikai ichimaizuri, many of which also incorporated illustrations by both amateur and professional artists. As expressions of the haikai spirit, these single-sheet compilations of poetry and pictures were a very popular form of print culture from the middle of the Edo period through the Meiji era.
