Gilt-edge leaves are tabbed into album with lacquer boards and leather spine; front cover has hand-painted and inlaid scene of two men carrying a woman in a palanquin (or kago) on the road, Mt. Fuji and old Japanese style restaurant in the background; inlays are of ivory; back cover is painted view of a praying mantis, a bee, a butterfly, a ladybug, and grasses.
Consists of 50 hand-tinted photographs mounted on 25 leaves show landscapes in Japan, manners and customs, and costume of Japan; some of the photographs have no. and English caption printed in the hemline.
Central Library's copy (HD 01955 4) put in a multitiered wooden box with similar item.
