Search Collections in Japan

  • UNICODE WINE [Japanese and English] (Library Web site)
    This OPAC can be used to check whether materials are held by Waseda University Library. Use the UNICODE OPAC to look for materials written in languages other than Japanese or English, such as Chinese or Korean.
  • NACSIS Webcat [Japanese and English] (public Web site)
    A unified catalog database provided by the National Institute of Informatics.
  • NDL Asian Language Materials OPAC [Japanese and English] (public Web site)
    Permits searches of Asian language materials held by the National Diet Library.
  • OPAC of the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization [Japanese and English] (public Web site)
    A searchable catalog of materials held at the library of the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

Search Journal and Newspaper Articles

  • China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) [simplified Chinese] (Library subscription database)
    You can search this database for articles from academic journals and newspapers in China. You can also read articles in the specific fields that Waseda subscribes to.
  • Science Portal China [Japanese] (public Web site)
    A database provided by the China Research Center of the Japan Science and Technology (JST) Agency. Searches of some scientific and technical materials issued by the China head office are free, but full texts must be purchased via the JST Document Duplication Service (in Japanese).
  • Bao kan zi liao suo yin(Index of Chinese newspapers and periodicals) [simplified Chinese] (journal)
    A directory for looking up journal and newspaper articles published in China. Field-specific editions are published for philosophy, politics, economics, and other fields.

  • NLC Dissertation Collection [simplified Chinese] (public Web site)
    A searchable index to academic theses held by the National Library of China.
  • Electronic Theses and Dissertations System [traditional Chinese] (public Web site)
    A National Central Library of Taiwan database containing Taiwanese academic theses since 1956. Searches themselves are free.

Search Statistics

  • National Bureau of Statistics of China [simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, and English] (public Web site)
    This site gives statistical data published by the National Bureau of Statistics of China.
  • China Statistical Yearbook [simplified Chinese and English] (book)
    Statistical yearbook compiled by the National Bureau of Statistics of China. Contains various data records on populations, energy, and prices indexes for each province, territory, and direct-controlled municipality.
  • China Data File [Japanese] (book)
    Statistical yearbook compiled by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) based on the China Statistical Yearbook. Also contains Sino-Japan trade statistics and China's laws and ordinances.
  • Directorate- General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan, R.O.C. (Taiwan) [traditional Chinese and English] (public Web site)
    This site provides statistical data issued by Taiwan's Directorate- General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan.
  • Statistical Yearbook of the Republic of China [English] (book)
    Statistical yearbook compiled by Taiwan's Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan. The text is entirely in English rather than in traditional Chinese.
  • Economic Yearbook of the Republic of China [traditional Chinese] (book)
    Statistical yearbook focusing on the Taiwanese economy complied by the Taiwan Economic News. Analyses of the previous fiscal year and related statistical data are arranged by industry sector.

  • The Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China [simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, and English] (public Web site)
    Able to search and view laws, personnel affairs, official bulletins, and other information sources issued by China's government.
  • National Central Library Gazette Online [traditional Chinese] (public Web site)
    This Web site, created by Taiwan's National Central Library, lets you search and view official information announced by various Taiwanese government bodies, such as the Legislative Yuan and the Executive Yuan. A dedicated viewer must be installed to view some records.

    The standard dictionary indispensible for any Chinese-language scholarship. Very useful for looking up the pinyin and meaning of Chinese characters.
  • CNKI Translation Site [simplified Chinese] (public Web site)
    Online English-Chinese/Chinese-English dictionary.
  • Zhongguo da bai ke quan shu (Second Edition) (Large Encyclopedia of China) [simplified Chinese] (book)
    A major encyclopedia on China published in 2009. Useful for looking up events and facts on China.
